How Much Does A Commercial Spray Paint Booth Cost?

A commercial spray paint booth is a piece of equipment that is designed to paint parts and products at scale and in a safe, isolated environment. As it’s generally used by different businesses and for different uses, commercial spray paint booths come in different models and sizes to meet the demands of each setting.

Whether an auto shop looking for a standard spray paint booth for vehicles or a manufacturing facility that needs a custom solution, the costs involved with purchasing and installing a commercial spray paint booth can differ drastically. We’ve put together the cost estimates across the different types of spray paint booths to help budget for different needs.

Average Cost of A Commercial Spray Paint Booth

A commercial spray paint booth can cost anywhere from $10,000 for a small booth with basic features up to $150,000 for a custom-built solution designed to meet unique operational needs.

A standard-sized spray paint booth for use in an auto shop will typically start at $20,000. Automotive spray paint booths that are built to service larger vehicles such as trucks and trailers will start at $50,000.

Costs for Different Types of Commercial Spray Paint Booths

Commercial Paint Spray Booth Cost

Open-face spray booth

Open-face spray booths are the most economical option for spray painting operations — prices range from $5,000 to $10,000 depending on the size of the booth. Open-face spray booths do not have an enclosed environment and are only suitable for smaller spray painting operations of individual parts. Most open-face spray paint booths are also offered in kits that require self-installation and setup.

Non-pressurised booth

Non-pressurised booths are a cost-effective option for businesses that require an enclosed booth to meet spray paint safety requirements. A non-pressurised booth can cost between $20,000 to $50,000 and will come with general features like semi-downdraft or cross-draft airflow to remove excess contaminants from the booth.

Pressurised booth

A pressurised booth will cost between $30,000 to $100,000 — these are the most advanced types of spray paint booths. Pressurised booths enable technicians to spray paint in a safe and controlled space, with additional features like downdraft ventilation and heated air systems helping to ensure proper air circulation within the booth.

Cost Considerations for Different Spray Paint Booth Sizes

Sizing is a major factor that affects the cost of a commercial spray paint booth — it’s important to know what to expect when it comes to finding the right size for your spray paint booth

Small spray paint booth (up to 3000mm width)

Smaller spray paint booth models are generally offered in sizes up to 3000mm in width — these are mostly acceptable for individual part spray painting applications. Small spray paint booths will usually have very basic air circulation options due to the lower volume of contaminants generated, resulting in lower costs.

Standard spray paint booth (3000–5000mm width)

Standard spray paint booths are sized suitably for most automotive painting applications, accommodating most car models, SUVs, and large trucks and trailers. Non-pressurised versions will be cheaper than pressurised versions, but this will also depend on the volume of painting work that needs to be done.

Custom paint booths (over 5000mm width)

For businesses that require bespoke paint booths that differ from the standard sizing offered by suppliers, the cost involved will likely increase significantly. Custom paint booths can be built to perfectly fit the operation’s requirements, from odd-shaped paint booth layouts to modular/collapsible paint booths, as well as drying room features after the painting is completed.

Other Cost Factors to Consider for Commercial Spray Paint Booths

Power requirements

A commercial spray paint booth can have either single-phase (220-240V) or three-phase (415V) power requirements. Single-phase spray paint booths will draw less power and can be plugged into any standard electrical outlet for regular operation. Three-phase commercial paint booths will require a three-phase power outlet in order to run optimally and will have higher running costs.

Maintenance costs

Commercial spray paint booths will require frequent maintenance and servicing over the course of their lifetime. This may involve the replacement of consumable parts like air filters or even damaged components that can result in dangerous safety hazards in the workspace.

Delivery and Installation

Commercial spray booth suppliers usually offer a choice between delivery-only purchases and a turnkey setup package. While it may be tempting to choose the cheaper delivery-only option, this may require your team to handle the installation process, which can be labour-intensive and difficult to complete properly without the right technical expertise. For this reason, many businesses choose to budget for the cost of a turnkey setup package that includes both delivery and installation.
